The Newest Bishop in the Church!!
May 18, 2008, marked the date of Steven Matthew Cook's ordination as Bishop of the Burley 11th Ward, Burley West Stake. President Sager, President of the Burley West Stake ordained Matt a Bishop; others standing in the circle were Garth Williams, First Counselor in the stake and also Matt's father-in-law, Second Counselor, Steven Reynolds Cook (father) and Gordon Larsen, brother-in-law. Others in the high council room were new Bishopric counselors, clerks and executive secretary with accompanying families.
Afterwards, Trista and children, Larsen family and Steve and myself returned to their home and enjoyed a scrumptious meal of bar-b-qued brisket, ribs, and chicken. Steve and Matt had spent most of the previous day, Saturday, cooking on Matt's new "smoker" that we presented to him as a gift. The 'smoked' hamburgers enjoyed that evening were the best that I've ever eaten! Ironically, Matt was detained at the church on Sunday and missed the entire meal prepared in his honor and ended up microwaving his plate of food!! Such is the life of a bishop!! Within two hours, he had already received two telephone calls asking for "Bishop Cook" and he was off and running!! See you in five years, Matt!!
We were honored to be invited and enjoyed our two day stay. God bless you and Trista and family!! Love, Mom and Dad
