Elder Richard Hinckley, son of President Hinckley speaks to us

Two weeks ago, January 21, 2008, Richard Hinckley, of the First Quorum of the Seventy and youngest son of President Gordon B.Hinckley, spoke at the MTC to the missionaries. His advice is timeless. He intially stated that he didn't have a prepared text, but that he had visited with his dad, President Hinckley before he came, and he proceeded to deliver suggestions, thoughts and notes by the Prophet. They are as follows:

  • "One of the great, ultimate goals of this church is to get people to the temple."
  • President Hinckley reminded the missionaries to "double baptisme worldwide."
  • Also, he said that "I have sealed all 5 of my children in the temple, all 25 out of 26 grandchildren (1 isn't eligible yet). I think that may be the finest thing I have ever done."
  • "Retain all those we have baptized-this church is not a revolving door."
  • "There is no sbustitute for hard work copled with faith."
  • Elder Richard Hickley reminded us that effective missionary work is done with we have the gospel bare down into our souls and then we teach and convey the spirit of love!

What an awesome reminder to all of us of what is really important in this life--retain our families and new members of the church through temple ordinances. Let's get to work!! As President Hinckley so often and fondly reminded us with his optimistic attitude, "it'll all work out!! If we could only rememer his optimism and have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!
