Elder Perry's Great Promise...

An apostle of the Savior Jesus Christ blessed us all by speaking to 2,000+ missionaries at the MTC this Christmas Day, 2007 , along with his lovely wife and several of his grandchildren and spouses. My first impression was that he truly understands the eternal nature of families and wanted them with him even on this busiest of days, to share himself and his family with the missionaries at the MTC. His message was a resounding reminder of Elder Holland's words that "everything good that has happened in my life stems from my serving an honorable mission!" He made the following points:

  • The spirit is essential to missionary work!

  • Never has there been a time where we are better equipped to reach the gospel!

  • We should look, be and act the part of a missionary!

  • Great blessings are in store for you if you keep your missionary roles!

  • Of all the stories that could have been included in the New Testament, he feels Matthew's was chosen because he remembered "his own." He reminded the missionaries to build strong a strong core even within their own families so far away. Follow the pattern of Matthew (spoke to the Jews, although hated by them because he was a tax collector).

  • Likewise, follow the message of Luke to spoke to the Gentiles--carry the message to the world. How the world needs our message. Don't be ashamed and proclaim it from the housetops!

  • He reminded us that the Quorum of the Twelve had input into the writing of Preach My Gospel and was written by revelation.

  • We declare that the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ has occurred and that the power of the Priesthood is upon the earth now and forever.

Finally, he promised that 2008 will be the greatest year for conversions! What a promise from one of the Lord's chosen apostles!
