November 4, a Day to Remember

This was our very first opportunity to assist with the influx of 200+ missionaries , assigned to teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to Heavenly Father's children all over the world, who entered the MTC today! The new missionaries enter the MTC every Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. This was considered a 'light' week??!? Next week, almost 700 new missionaries will descend! It's almost overwhelming to note the hundreds of volunteers to come each Wednesday to assist with this huge undertaking.
What a thrill to witness their enthusiasm, joy, laughter, anxiety and a few tears. Steve and I are still in the 'embryo' stage of learning and experiencing the thousands of details required to run this "city within a city." Even the handling of their suitcases, e.g. delivery and pick-up after the opening session with parents, was so organized and efficient. We experienced first-hand the handing out of the manila envelope packets to the new missionaries listing their new companion, residence bldg and number, classroom bldg. assignment, district, branch information, etc. after they had left their parents. Each missionary looked so sharp and excited in anticipation of all that awaits them!
Earlier that morning, we were asked to sit in as 'investigators' in an ESL teaching opportunity. Both sisters were from foreign countries, e.g. Korea and Germany, but both spoke excellent English and were "on fire." Their individual knowledge of the Restoration with accompanying scriptures and supporting background was only surpassed by their strong testimonies. We were measurably moved and touched as they bore witness that the Savior's church has been restored to this earth with all the complete components to allow us to return to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. On note, the Korean sister is assigned to Temple Square and the other to a Canadian mission. Watch out, Elders, here they come!!
We have so much to learn but know Heavenly Father will bless us with health and strength to accomplish that which is required of us.
