A Farewell to our Beloved Prophet...January 27, 2008

Today, January 27, 2008, Gordon B. Hinckley, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away quietly at 7:00 PM, MST at home. According to a family, member, he had slept the previous three days and all family members were concerned but realized his passing was imminent. His passing was peaceful and surrounded by loved ones.
Today in celebration and honoring his life, Steve and I, joined by Chip (who flew into Utah for two days for business) and Christy, attended his viewing in the "Hall of the Prophets" at the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Thousands were in attendance awaiting their turn to pass by his bier, surrounded in flowers, clothed in solemn testimony that here lies our great and humble prophet of the Lord Jesus Christ. How terribly he will be missed, never to be forgotten for his humility, life of service, humor, leadership, and relentless charge of his mantle to keep the promise to build the kingdom in the last days, spoken by prophets past and present. His stewardship was fulfilled as he continually built temples, not for his or the Church's aggrandizement, but to take the covenants and promises of the temple to his people all over the world. He truly was the Master Temple Builder. His vision, his relentless work ethic, and his ability to make each person he met feel important and valued will long remain his legacy. God bless you President Hinckley as you lead, preach and teach in the heavens above, coupled with your dear sweet Marjorie at your side as your continual support. Please don't forget us, as we'll never forget you!
