We're finally on the Schedule! November 29, 2007

After 2 1/2 weeks of 'training' (OJT), the two out-going couples have left which leaves the 8 of us (four couples-2 couples brand-new to the International Office). Yesterday, Wednesday, we flew 'solo' and survived!! Only 29 new international missionaries entered the MTC yesterday, but oh what diverse histories and background they bring. Before yesterday, I wasn't certain of the location of Serbia, but now I know!! Our Elder Strbacki (Steve pronounces it Starbuck) joined the church 1 1/2 years ago when two elders in his hometown in Servia were handing out free Book of Mormons, and naturally he wanted a free book. He was converted shortly and has served as first counselor in his Branch. His English is impeccible and I see him as a prominent church leader one day. What a powerful young man he is.

A second sister from Malaysia left her member mother and non-member father(anti and disgruntled when she left), sacrificing much to serve this mission. She recently graduated with a four year degree in Pharmacology (her father wouldn't allow her to serve a mission until she first graduated from college); interestingly, she said that in Malaysia, the government requires college grads (compulsory) to work for 4 years before they begin their private professions. Because she is on her mission and didn't 'pay back' the government's requirements, she is not insured of ever becoming employed in her profession when she returns. She said she has already waited these 5 years, (aleady 26 years old) and didn't want to wait any longer. She left with her mother's blessing and faith that her future "will all work out!' Every day we become privy to special and sacred stories of sacrifice and faith exhibited by these young people and often their supportive families. How blessed we are to be the sweet recipients of their life's stories.

Lola, I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog since it began. I had to inform you that on this short article, I realized just how much I miss (not only you), but Steve's fabulous sense of humor.

Tell me about what flying solo means. Do you and Steve get to fly and meet missionaries somewhere?

    Love ya bunches,
    June
