First Zone Conference, November 16, 2007

Centered on the stage of our Zone Conference was a life-size replica of the Christus, a sculpture by Bertel Thorvalsen in the 19th century. What a sweet reminder that His outstretched arms are inviting all to "come unto Me." All senior, full-time couples were invited to this special meeting, held from 9:00 a.m. to noon, after which we were invited to remain and eat lunch together. In attendance were the two outgoing couples at the MTC and the two new couples-in-training; additionally, four couples and 2 single sisters who work in the Referral Center and TRC were present. This is the total of the full-time missionaries assigned to the MTC. President Boone presided. Of special note were:
(1.) Shane Litttlefield, Manager of the Training Resources for the Church and previous Mission President in Mexico Mexico City East, reminded us of the increasingly positive effect of Teach My Gospel on convert baptisms the past 5 years. During the previous ten years, he reported that there had been a decrease in conversions and baptism and retention. He reminded us that we all have a (premortal) duty to 'bring souls to Christ' and that we can all be successful through prayer and hard work. There is work to be done. This is not optional!!
(2.) George T. Taylor, MTC part-time instructor encouraged us to pray for specific revelation by using "I" rather than we.
(3.) Richard Heaton, Administrator and professional leader for Training at the MTC reminded us that we are "missionaries serving missionaries!" Two powerful promises are given us as found in D&C 84:87-88 and D&C 97:8-9. Believe it. Additionally, he reminded us that anytime we are required to build the Kingdom of God, there is sacrifice!
(4.) Finally, President Boone had us read the opening paragraph of Teach My Gospel, first paragraph to remind us of the purpose of this great teaching tool. D&C 18:10 reminds us that we need to be reminded more than we need to be instructed!! Three of the four verses 13-16 end with an exclamation point! The Lord is excited about this subject!
